Cutting Corners

Today I finally got to the quarter round in the living room. It didn’t take nearly as long as I had thought it would. I guess for some reason I figured I would have to cut all the inside corners for each intersection, but as I got going, I realized there were decorative section in each corner that the quarter round would just butt up against. So I really only had to cut the ends at the doorways to an angle, more for looks and function. Then around the old chimney casing I had to cut the outside corners to make them nice and snug. I didn’t want any gaps, and well, it actually turned out looking quite nice, if I may toot my own horn. I had a couple other situations to deal with. One is where I cut the angle on the wrong end of one board, I didn’t want it to go to waist, so I used in on the other side of the doorway from where I was going to put it originally. It was about 1/2 inch short, so I had to cut a small piece to fill in at the corner. It doesn’t really show, and most people would probably not notice it if it was out in the open. The other was notching a section to fit where our Dish cable comes into the house and goes into the basement. I basically cut out a quarter inch square in the quarter round trim so it would fit around the cable. It looks pretty good too, and it is back where furniture will almost always be hiding it, so it’s not that big a deal.
Here are some more pictures of me working, just as proof that I actually did something constructive today.
Nailing in the trim. I borrowed Dad’s air nailer. I now have something new for my Christmas list for this year!
Here I am getting ready to fit the next piece of trim.
Cutting another section to length. Measure twice, at least! Cut Once!!
This was a great day to work inside. It snowed this morning. Nothing accumulated, but when I was walking Fred, it was cold and windy with rain mixed with snow. It’s April right? Never fear though, this is Iowa and it is supposed to get into the seventies next week. That’s more like it!
